| Well, I started with lab blocks, but here they are way too expensive. I would pay $10 for 2 pounds of lab blocks. It was outrageous. Now I have a feeder bin filled with cat food (which they don't really eat) and they get lots of people food and treats. My old rat, Ebony, at this point just gets treats and people food. | |

| Yeah. I did learn you can't leave them in the cage. Mine love to eat a little and hoard the rest. To make a long story short my room soon smelt of rancid food. Now I give it to them on a spare towel on my bed so they eat what they want without being allowed to store it. After thanksgiving they get to chew on the turkey carcass. It is really cute watching them try to drag the whole carcass back into their cage. | |

| I spoiled Ebony, my first and oldest rat, so much that she now refuses to eat any health food. Luckily my new rats arn't that smart. They actually prefer fresh fruit than most other foods. Here is a picture of Ebony when she stole an entire dinner role! | |

| Rats like most fresh or frozen fruits or veggies. Here are some of my rats' favorites:
cantaloupe bananas grapes peas carrots melon of any kind avacodo (WATCH OUT! HIGH IN FAT) green beans
Try small amounts of fruits and vegetables, whole grain pastas and bread, brown rice, yogurt, and occasionally low fat cooked meat, mealworms, cheese, seeds and nuts. In addition, treats such as dog biscuits can be given. It is important to keep rats on a high fiber and low fat diet though, so limit higher fat foods such as cheese, seeds, and nuts. Rats have a bit of a sweet tooth, but resist the temptation to feed sugary foods or junk food, including chocolate. | |

| You will never believe it, but my rats refused to eat avacado. I have heard how much rats love avacado, but they won't eat it. So weird. | |

| Oh good, I'm not the only one with weird rats. Though now that I think of it, My old rats didn't eat yogies at first either. They soon got over that though! | |

| I hate how expensive they are. When I had more rats I would go through them so quickly. I wish I knew how to make them at home (if that is even possible) | |

| Do your rats eat the skins, because mine won't. They won't ever recognize they are food until a break the skins and they can smell the juice. Then the peel the skins off and eat them. | |

| I've never met a rat who is easy to bathe. I have lost much skin to my rats nails while bathing. Not enjoyable. | |

| My rats get Harlan Teklad lab blocks, Suebee's Mix, and fresh veggies/herbs/fruit every evening with oatmeal made with soy milk. Since it's been mentioned... cat food should never be fed to rats, unless they're pregnant or lactating. It's WAY too high in protein. | |
